About National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week

Each year, we celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) to honor our postdocs. This year, NPAW will be observed September 19 - 23, 2022 with events centered on the theme "Finding Your Balance".

The Office of Postdoctoral Services will host virtual and in-person events during this week to promote all aspects of well-being. The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) will also host virtual webinars and networking events throughout the week.

Postdoc Tailgate Party

Saturday, September 17

  • Tailgate begins at 1 p.m. ET
  • Ole Miss vs. Tech Football Game at 3:30 p.m. ET

Join us for camaraderie before the game! RSVP by Tuesday, September 13th for the tailgate party. Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be guaranteed for the first 40 registrants, but all postdocs are welcome to attend and can bring their own food and drinks. If you are interested in attending the football game, tickets can be purchased on the Georgia Tech Athletics website.

Finding Your Balance

This NPA sponsored virtual panel will focus on the challenges early career researchers face and provide a framework for postdocs to build better balance in their professional lives, especially as they navigate their next career step.

Reciprocal Relationships in a Virtual World

Tuesday, September 20
10:00 - 11:30 a.m. ET

In collaboration with Emory University, this interactive virtual workshop is designed to equip postdoctoral scholars with reciprocal relationship building (networking) skills that span the in-person and virtual professional environments. Please register by Friday, September 16!

Yoga in the Park

Relax for a 1-hr session of outdoor yoga at Couch Park (yoga mats will be available).

Navigating Conflict and Challenging Conversations: Keep Calm and Influence Others

Thursday, September 22
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. ET

This virtual webinar features Dr. Kyla Ross, who is the Assistant Vice Provost for Advocacy and Conflict Resolution at Georgia Tech. Learn why communication challenges and conflicts arise in teams. Identify your style under stress and learn to look for signs that psychological safety is at risk. Work towards moving forward in difficult situations while preserving personal and professional relationships.

Virtual Social and Networking Event

This NPA sponsored virtual networking event will give you an opportunity to talk about “Finding Your Balance” and expand your connections with postdocs across the country. During this event, you will find five wellness topics: (1) physical, (2) financial, (3) career, (4) mental/emotional, and (5) community/interpersonal. It will be facilitated by ambassadors passionate about each realm.

A Schedule for Your Life

3:00 - 4:00 p.m. ET

This virtual webinar features Dr. Chris Martin, who is a Lecturer in Psychology and Core Studies at Oglethorpe University. He has taught a class on the science of happiness since 2016. He will summarize the main lessons that we have learned from recent happiness research, most of which involve changing the way we spend our time.
